WEG Study on MDCPS Shortfall Highlighted in South Florida Business Journal

On January 12, 2015, the South Florida Business Journal highlighted the key findings of an economic impact study prepared by The Washington Economics Group, Inc. for Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) entitled ‘The Economic Impacts of the School District Funding Shortfall on Miami-Dade County, the Miami-Dade County Economy and the Florida Economy.”  The $300 million revenue shortfall between 2007 and 2012 is caused by lower-than-expected tax collections and a two-year backlog in Miami-Dade County Value Adjustment Board appeals.  This is the main source of funding for MDCPS. WEG’s findings highlighted in the article include an estimated loss of 5,430 jobs in Miami-Dade County and 342 other state jobs. Read the full article here
