WEG Study Quoted in Miami Today

A 2011 Study by The Washington Economics Group, Inc. (WEG) on the importance of investing in the Miami Beach Convention Center was highlighted in a recent Viewpoint by Michael Lewis, the Editor and Publisher of Miami Today.  Commenting on the need to upgrade the County’s main convention center via a 1% tax on hotel rooms which will appear on the August 14th ballot, Mr. Lewis stressed the vital need to support the investment in the Convention Center.   The Study analyzed the impacts to jobs, local businesses and the impact to overall competitiveness resulting from the investment and renovation of the Convention Center finding that close to 4,000 jobs could be created if  such an investment were made.  Currently, the Miami Beach Convention Center is ranks as the 30th largest in the world – down from the 4th position – not competing properly in the market, which is a top destination for domestic and international visitors.
