A representative of The North Carolina Retail Merchants Association touted the findings of two WEG studies analyzing the economic impacts and sales tax benefits of Sales Tax Holidays in Florida. A bill making its way through the North Carolina Legislature threatens the future of a Back-to-School sales tax holiday in the state. The Washington Economics Group (WEG) study was referenced in the Guest Column in the June 28th issue of the Triangle Business Journal by saying that, “contrary to conventional wisdom, the (WEG) study determined that the Sales Tax Holiday resulted in higher tax collections,” from years when there was not a sales tax holiday in Florida.
