WEG Founder Comments on South Florida’s Declining Unemployment Rate

In a report released by the State of Florida on March 29th, the State’s unemployment rate continues to decline thanks to job growth in most industries. Tony Villamil, WEG Founder and Principal Advisor and Dean of School of Business at St. Thomas University, was interviewed by Marcia Heroux Pounds from the Sun-Sentinel on the rate in Palm Beach County specifically. Villamil said that these rates are a “meaningful decline from the year-ago level,” adding that a “change of 1 percent in the unemployment rate is considered significant.” At the State level, Villamil said that “Florida is now outpacing the nation in adding jobs, but that mandated government cuts under sequestration in defense, medical research and other areas could slow the State’s growth.
